‘She is of time, about, because of.’
She Must brings together ideas of the comic book, photography and poetry to create a short narrative poem. Exploring time: time in the comic, in photography, in art, in literature and in history, the book offers the portrait of a woman caught within the endlessness of time.
Using the underlying grid structure of the comic book and the sequential reading both comic and photo series share, this work is part of artist Rosie Sherwood ongoing experimentation with how photography might be used in the comic book.
During the creation of the book Sherwood also produced a small wax sculpture of the eponymous She. Sherwood’s sculpture marries traditional materials and techniques with contemporary ideas of the comic book collectible. The production of this sort of book ephemera demonstrates the open and explorative take on the book that drives As Yet Untitled as a company.
